the last

Today, Selam woke up and announced, “this is the last day that I am five.” She then proceeded to eat her last five year old breakfast and pack her bag for school, “for the last time when I am five.”  She tried to tell me it was the last time for her to brush her teeth as a five year old, but I vetoed that one.

She’s wanted to be six since January. It’s almost here.

Please, someone stop the clocks tonight. Freeze the frame.  I just got used to having a five year old for pete’s sake!
